Perception, Menu Covers, and Reception

There are many different personalities, and personality types , in the world. There are also multiple ways of classifying personality types, and some of these are more useful than others. When it comes to the restaurant business, one’s bases are fairly well-covered by looking at how people perceive the world cognitively.

There are, in this model, two different types . The first type looks at the world as a whole, and perceives everything at once, while their mind starts filtering the information to make value judgments. In restaurants, this type is useful for determining the overall ambiance and atmosphere of a place. They can offer useful information about the responses to food, certainly, but these responses are always measured in relation to the other details that make up the whole.

The second type is more analytical. This one will go through the surroundings in a more strategic fashion. They may look at the decor, observe the behavior of the staff, and then start breaking apart the details. This type is valuable for making sure all the small things add up to a pleasant experience for customers in general. Both types will respond to details, where things like menu covers can certainly make a difference in the overall experience. Where for one, the details add up to a bigger picture, and for the other, the details are the picture, both have ways of experiencing the world that can speak volumes to the effectiveness of an establishment.
