The Facts about Drug Addiction

Drug addiction is a disease. A drug abuse treatment center or rehab center is the key ingredient that will have a long-standing effect of treating the disease. The first thing the drug abuser learns is that they have a disease that can be treated, but not cured.

The addict, once in a drug rehabilitation facility, will be told in a very cool and collected way about how they are harming themselves, as well as harming those around them because of their dependence on certain substances. Members involved in the rehab program will point out events to the addict where they took an incorrect turn in their lives because of their drug addiction .

While in rehab, the addict will be dealt with firmly within the program and will be told that their current lifestyle cannot be supported in society and that while in the rehab facility, the addict will not have access to their drug of choice, nor any other substance. They will go through approximately 2 days of detoxification. Then once the substance abuser has a clear head, treatment will begin.

Treatment will consist of group therapies, one-on-one counseling, rest, 3 healthy meals a day, and Alcoholic Anonymous meetings or Narcotic Anonymous meetings, usually twice a day. Plus, they will be staying at the facility for at least 30-days. They will be given the tools to deal with their addiction and with life in general. After the 30-days, they are required to attend ‘After-care’ programs and to do 90 AA or NA meetings in 90 days. If the tools are used properly and the meetings attended, a substance abuser will have a good chance at putting a stop to their disease.
